Chromebook - is 4GB RAM needed?

I'm thinking of getting a Chromebook as a small, good battery life laptop. That it runs only a browser is fine.

What I wonder about is whether the jump to 4GB RAM from 2GB is necessary? On the Acer C720, for example, 4GB adds $120.


In addition, how much SSD space is used up by the OS? (IOW, how much free space does a 16GB model have to start?)
