Chrome will stop supporting XP, Vista and early OS X this year

I understand that what I'm doing can be accomplished under vm's but there is just something about the old way that I like. The sounds of the pc as it reads the disks, the whirl of a Quantum HDD, getting DOS memory management just right haha like that can happen... IDK....I just like it. To me it is just fun.

ALL Windows is bloatware compared to good old DOS 6.22, having said that Vista especially with SP2 was close to Win7 which is what Win7 is based on.


I do miss my DOS 6.22 gaming days, back on topic again I wonder if the other companies will follow suit with what Google Chrome is doing?..I do hope not.

Who cares. Certainly not the XP/Vista die-hard fans (like myself). Chrome has been a memory hog as of late on Windows XP 32-bit systems running out of ram quite regularly. Good riddance. And Vista has always been underestimated. Google is just lazy. Many advanced features (like video decoding) of Chrome have required Windows 7 and up for quite some time now anyway. Firefox kicking in.

And if you want to feel old-school, there is always Lynx browser which is even supported on DOS.

I still have an old Athlon X2 PC running 64-bit Vista Ultimate and it works fine. In fact Vista has worked fine IME since SP1 was released. Not popular/cool to say this but its the truth.

Also not sure why Chrome would work fine on 7 but not Vista since they are pretty damn close to the same OS.

Edit: He got a laptop, that came with Windows 8.1 w/Bing recently, and then upgraded to Win10. He decided that he doesn't like Win10, but didn't make a restore USB stick when it had 8.1 w/Bing on it. And I've been hearing, that there's no official download for Win8.1 w/Bing ISOs.

Now that I have to try. Are you sure it supports MS-DOS 6.22 or later?

I would, but a Win8.1 w/Bing Product Key embedded in the BIOS will (from what I've read) NOT activate, when "regular" Win8.1 is installed. It has to be 8.1 w/Bing, and that's not available for download from MS like regular 8.1 is. (Ok, so I hear you can get it from torrents, but I'd like to stay legit, so I can know the software isn't tampered with.)

3.1 wasn't the beginning for me. I think that 3.0 was. Not a lot of people ever used Windows 2 or 1. They were all pretty buggy.

I still think that Windows 2000 was the best OS that Microsoft ever put out. It had the stability of NT 4 with the usability of Windows 98 and the first plug and play support that actually worked well.
 
Google gives Chrome for Windows XP a reprieve

GOOGLEE HAS announced a reprieve for Chrome browser users who are still clinging on to Windows XP.

The erstwhile Microsoft operating system was originally due to be unsupported from December, but a blog post today from Marc Pawliger, director of engineering at Chrome, confirms that the new end date will be April 2016, coinciding with the first anniversary of Windows XP's kaputness.

At the same time, Chrome support will also cease for Windows Vista, as well as Mac OS X versions below 10.9.

google chrome is refusing to install on my validated copy of windows xp so it's great that firefox works great which is why i donated some money to mozilla for firefox. 🙂
