Did anyone see last weeks episode West Coast Customs. The application of the chrome finish on the all chrome car was pretty cool to watch. I have never seen any kind of finish applied like that. They chromed the hood in about 30 seconds. No worries about runs or drips they just sprayed on the chrome finish and immediately applied a heavy spray of water. After the chrome cured it was sprayed with a regular clear coat and buffed. Link to picture of car.

I have done a little searching and found a video of the same chroming process (on a car part) on Jay Leno's Garage. The video says it's the same basic process used to make mirrors.

I have some parts that I have put off getting chromed due to the cost. Has anybody seen any of this type of chrome in person?

I watched that episode. The car is insanely gaudy but I must admit I was impressed - it looks incredible and it's certainly Tron-like.

Car was gaudy as hell...and it being Noel Lee's made me hate it even more. On most of the casual shots, the finish looked terrible because of all the fingerprints and smudging on the finish. I thought a lot of the other parts of the car, especially the backlit, polycast wheels, were fantastic. But the finish just didn't do anything for me.

I bet they have tons of buffer burns and such from rushing it so much... a good paint job and a good detail job takes time and patients which WCC had none of... the whole paint process looked crazy though... good episode though

I never knew how much time till this weekend. I had my truck painted and have been learning about the whole process. I have it out in the sun and found about a dozen small flat areas that need more love.
