Chrome slow and memory leak

My friend is having a problem with Chrome being really slow and using upwards of 1.3 GB of ram. What should he do ? He never had this problem previously.
 
Make sure he deletes his hidden directories also. He'll want to backup any data he wants to keep(bookmarks, passwords...), cause they'll all be gone if he does a complete deletion.
