Well this is rare, but i think drugs made him famous, cuz he acts like a doper, and is famous for it. He is a great actor though, for the parts he gets.

Are you maybe thinking of Dennis Hopper?

yeah I forgot about that.

Deer Hunter is easily one of the ten best movies ever. And his peformance was indeed outstanding in that movie.

Also John Cazale was outstanding as well....especially considering he was terminally ill while they shot the movie. He died right afterwards I think.

From now on, nothing goes down unless I'm involved. No blackjack no dope deals, no nothing. A nickel bag gets sold in the park, I want in. You guys got fat while everybody starved on the street. Now it's my turn.

Normally I vote excellence based on the range and skill of acting abilities. But even though I don't think Walken has much range, I think his skill (or percieved skill) more than makes up for it. Like someone else said, he has the ability to make even the least important role memorable. I think the role he plays just fits extremely well into any movie.

he seems to have turned into a character actor...who is almost doing an impression of himself because of his cult popularity.
i still dig a lot of his movies but i havnt seen him in a new movie that i thought really worked.
