Christopher Reeves left a massage

I just heard that Kerry is saying that Christopher called and left him a message about stem cell research. He didn't say he called him back. Would he have been that cold?

RIP Chris....

Be careful.... Cad Guy doesn't like Chris and will start calling you names.... Apparently he doesn't understand Stem Cell Research....

🙂

But if your lucky he may give you a cookie! 🙂

WOW - way to make ASSumptions. Don't mind I was the one who posted the thread last night when the story broke. Don't mind you are the troll that is trying to play games with his death(your repost thread). Don't mind you don't seem to have a clue about stemcells, the President's stance on it, or for that matter -MY stance on stem-cell research.

Now back to your bridge troll.

what a troll. Continuing to disparage Chris's memory and charitable work for your political agenda? Hm?

Since I broke my neck in Feb and was paralysed for a bit, I am in full sympathy with Chris Reeves. I could only move my head for a bit and think I can feel what he has gone through to a small degree. Mine was c3,c4. He was also being treated for a pressure injury. I had one from my incident that lasted better than a month. Chris is one of my heros. I have a few. God or someone was on my side as were a couple of excellent GWU surgeons and I am almost completely back. Got some old airplane parts in my neck, but smile every time I think of them. I was just a little upset that Kerry leapt on that as a campaign asset so quickly. I see that as low. Kerry is not one of my heros and no, I didn't read all the threads in the forum before I posted.

Well, given that one of Reeve's last acts was to call Sen Kerry, I don't think it's unreasonable for Sen Kerry to dedicate an appearance to him. Reeve was definitely a Kerry supporter.

Unlike the original poster, right? Why would he even bring this up in another thread especially regarding a private phone call from a dying man?

Ya, I once met a guy who had broken his neck twice and was still walking! Few ever are so lucky.

That is why I picked "Condor". I'm still having to wear the dam-ed white collar. Condor = buzzard = big bird with a white collar.

You know, I'm liking Ron Reagan and his Bush bashing, he just makes soo much sense especially about stem cells.

there is a fundemental misunderstanding about stem cell research

1) You do *not* have to get stem cells from embryo's, so why do it. You can get it from umbilical cords and even from adults.
2) Embryonic Stem Cell Research is *not* illegal, the federal government just won't fund it. How can the government be involved in killing embryos that some people believe are human life and thus murder to destroy it?
3) Bush was the first president to allow ANY federal funding of stem cell research, so cut him some slack.
4) Bush allowed the existing embryonic stem cell lines to be used since they were already destroyed, which at the time was more than enough for researchers. It is true that some of the lines have been contaminated, but you can get new lines from other sources besides killing an embryo.

To quote Ron Reagan during a Hardball conversation today with Chris Matthews, Stem Cells have only been around or should I say discovered their potential since 1998, so Bush is pretty much the only president that could allocate any form of funding. So that does not give him much credit since others in the past didn't really have an opprtunity to implement any other kind of funding because they were yet to be discovered.

Allowed?

Correct me if I'm wrong, isn't stem cell research using materials from adult also banned due to fear of cloning?

I know some people at Tulane that's doing research with adult bone marrows for genetic treatments.

Only during the surgery. The screws left blood trails down my face and a ring of scabs in my scalp; otherwise I wouldn't have known. My daughter was eager to get my face washed after recovery. They operated on the front of the CV through the throat and then flipped me over and went into the back to fix the back of the CV. The whole process was pretty comfortable as far as I was concerned. If anyone out there has this sort of thing looming in their future, it (the procedure) was pretty positive. A lot of people saw me with the support collar before the surgery and reassured me. The procedure is a lot more common than I realized. That gave me great comfort. My damage was neither as high nor as destructive as Cristopher Reeves. I was a very lucky (blessed?) fellow. I feel that every day.

You may be referencing Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer. Kerry is in favor of this technique as it pertains to THERAPEUTIC CLONING but NOT reproductive cloning.

Edit: Oh and one more thing, it appears obvious that Kerry and Reeve had a relationship BEFORE Reeve's accident. Kerry and Reeve shared each other's views and beliefs AFTER the accident and probably considered each other good friends, I'd imagine. For Christ sake, the man thought of Kerry so much as to call him from his death bed. I think Kerry has the right, no, no, no, the DUTY to continue Reeve's work. If you ask Reeve if he was insulted by Kerry mentioning him during a speech and paying homage to him, he probably wouldn't laughed at you.
