That sound you hear is the gentle whir of the victims' lawyers' printers warming up...

Wouldn't be surprised if the zoo is sued into bankruptcy for this gaffe. Especially since the zoo was deemed liable for the incident a year ago due to poorly-designed cages.

well, it's probably more likely that the ambulance chaser will end up settling out of court with the insurance company (preferred outcome, since they do so little work and still end up with a large chunk of cash, without ever seeing a courtroom for more than 15 minutes).......then the zoo will have their insurance company quadruple the premiums (or worse).

Oh, and a 9mm handgun would do plenty against a tiger. While they're not as small as humans, they usually don't top out larger than 4 or 5 hundred pounds (the female that attacked the handler last year was reported at 350), and that's small enough that a hollowpoint 9mm would tear it up inside, and cause some real damage. Of course, you'd want to make certain you killed it, since a wounded pissed off tiger is probably the only thing worse than a regular one!!

Killed by a tiger while dining at a cafe at the zoo on Christmas day. I'm not sure if there are any good ways to go, but that's got to be among the worst ways.

thats one messed up christmas there.
imagine being one of those cops hunting a tiger on christmas night, thats bizarre.
or being in that cafe sipping your coffee... oh hey...a tiger! uh oh...

no chance anyone had a conceal carry permit in sf, course i'm not sure what a normal pistol would do to a tiger other than piss it off.

in my hometown an ELEPHANT escaped and was running wild through people's yards.

i guess elephants just aren't as scary cuz they don't hunt...silent stalking etc. plus they are easy to see;)

On the topic of Christmas related deaths, I saw my first dead body this Christmas day at age 21. A man was shot dead on Interstate 5 by a state trooper and they left him there for at least four or five hours, enough for me to hear about it on the news and see him laying there on the drive home from my Mom's place.

That Tiger didn't like being caged. How the heck did it get out though? Rule #1 of a Zoo: Don't let the Tigers out.

Not a snow flake in hells chance. California won't issue CCW, plus San Fran is a "No Gun Zone" otherwise known as a "Victim Zone"
My family has a membership to our local zoo and we go about once a month when it's warm. I'm packing every time I go. Several years ago we had a Gorilla get out and injure some people (I don't remember if he killed anyone though) and the cops had to come in and kill the gorilla with an elephant gun.
I know my .45 probably won't kill a gorilla, but I would hope it would be enough to make him go the other way and leave me and my family alone.

Stupid tiger, Christmas is the day for human to eat other animals, not the other way around.

i just saw that tiger a month ago too. Wonder how it got out, it would take a very big leap and if you miss you fall 15 feet.

The fact that someone died and the animal was killed is sad.

That said, I just don't agree with keeping animals in cages although I might feel differently if the cages were built large enough. I can't imagine an animal like a tiger would be happy in such a small space and likely contributed to its cage rage.

It depends on who you are.

Feinstein is a strong proponent of gun control, yet is known to have carried concealed handguns herself with a normally nearly impossible to obtain California carry permit - few people, other than politicians and celebrities, are able to obtain California CCW permits. At one time, she was the only person in San Francisco to possess a concealed carry permit.

wow the story is getting wierd. Reports that the Zoo ingnored people when claiming t he tiger was out and hurting people. baring the ambulance from entering and from the looks of it trying to smear the victims.
