Seems like alot of Christmas Pre-Built PC's - HP , Gateway , Dell etc Come with 300 watt or lower Power Supplys.

Even if 5% of the buyers want to upgrade the Video Cards etc because of VISTA in the spring and find out they need to buy a new Power supply also, Seems like a lot of unhappy people.

Will the 8800GTS work with the machines ?

Your observation is correct. The 8800gts will need a psu upgrade. A 380w psu that is of high quality would suffice, however, the prebuilt pc's come with less than crap psus. You will need something like an enhance 5140gh, enermax liberty 400w or fortron fsp400-gln.

folks who buy these pre-builts are more likely to get something like an 8600 GT or something of the sort, anyway. They DO indeed pack crap PSUs :Q

I'd say most of the pre-built (<$1000 MSRP) crowd will be fine with the integrated graphics chipset. No one needs a dedicated graphics card unless you game.
