Christmas gaming - Can my video card handle these games?

Hi,

I have a lenovo i5 4gb ram machine with this video card: GeForce 310
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_310_us.html

I know it isn't a good card.

But is it possable to play any of those games:

Battlefield: Bad Company™ 2 - http://store.steampowered.com/app/24960/

that gpu appears to be worse than an 8500gt so there will not be too many modern games you will be playing. minimum for Black Ops is an 8600gt which is about twice as fast as your 310. minimum for Bad Company 2 is a 7800gt which is a little bit slower than an 8600gt in most newer games. in other words you only have about half the gpu that is recommended as the minimum just to play either of those.

If Civ5's minimum requirements are accurate, you should be able to play it:

Graphics: 256 MB ATI HD2600 XT or better, 256 MB nVidia 7900 GS or better, or Core i3 or better integrated graphics

You will technically be able to play the games, as the hardware should be compatible.

However, you will HAVE to use lower resolution and low settings and even then it's very likely you'll experience low framerates. 310 is EXTREMELY low end, and barely a step above integrated graphics.

I don't see how they can jump from a 7900GS to integrated graphics. A 7300GT rivals integrated graphics.

The Core i3 integrated graphics are listed, and his GPU is faster than those. Hence the underline. And I suspect his GPU is closer to a 7900GS in modern games than you suggest.

You should be able to run these games, but framerates could be an issue. Looks like he could improve his BF2 experience by dropping the resolution.

Can't run it? Or can't run it at high settings?

It won't be able to run high settings, but at low res, low settings it will work. I think people are pretty caught up on getting 60+ FPS all settings high. The percentage of people who actually game that way is pretty low if you look seriously at the steam surveys and such.
