Update:
I talked to a Gateway rep tonight, they received the laptop yesterday and determined that they need to replace the mobo. All work is covered by the warranty. Unfortunately she was unable to give me an idea of when I'd get it back.
Oh well, aside from the shipping it's all free. I'm not about to start complaining. 😛
