Christmas Case(&Mobo) Chaos

Okay, so tonight I got a case for my new system. The motherboard I have is this one, an ABIT IS7. The case I got is this one, a supposedly ATX compatible case. However, when I go to put in the mobo, the openings in the case do not match up with the interface of the mobo. I feel really bad because I was upset when I found out that I wasn't getting a case for Christmas when that was the main thing I asked for, and my dad went out and bought this case because he knew I really wanted one. He knew this was pretty much the case that I wanted (I had seen one a lot like it in Fry's, only difference was the PSU).

Can anyone tell me what I can do short of returning the case? Is there some kind of a compatibility thing that I overlooked when telling them what kind of case to buy? I know I am a n00b, but right now I really only want serious responses, so please restrain yourself from making unnecessary comments.

you mean the screws don't line up, or the board doesn't fit down in the case? I have this same case, and mine installed fine. You know the mobo tray is removeable right?

It is? I'll take a look at that too, that'll help.

What I'm saying is that the case's USB Ports, PS/2 Ports, etc. etc. don't match with the back of the cases openings.

oh, oh, oh!!! Mainboards nowdays don't all neccisrily conform to the same back panel. You should have gotten one with your mainboard that fits it specifically. Just take the one out of your case (it just pops out) and put the one for your mainboard in.

Yes, I figured that out with some help from someone else. Like I said, I'm a total n00b. Thanks for all your help. Only problem is, I don't think I can get the mobo tray all the way back in now. The day just keeps getting better.

i know this sounds bad, but you just gotta push ...... HARD. mine sticks too, just have to push. Just make sure it's all lined up right, and as long as you push on the metal part (not the mobo ) it won't hurt anything. Hope your new system goes well!

Well, I'm good at all other hardware, but I've never had to deal with a mobo before because I've never set up my own comp from scratch. I've only added optical drives or HDDs or stuff like that. But yes, I am an OT junkie for sure.

Anyways, I got it back in, and I think I'll just leave it in now that it's back in, cuz I never feel comfortable pushing/forcing things when it comes to computers. I hate having to do it with my 9800 Pro because I always get worried.

You ever install a heatsink on a socket a mobo? OMG! talk about having to force stuff! I always had to use screwdrivers to push down the retention bracket, cause if I tried it with my thumbs it felt like they were gonna bleed. N E way, one time (of coarse it was the first system I had ever built, and I was building it for myself :roll: ) I was putting one on and the screwdriver slipped off the tab and onto my mainboard!!!!!!! I think I almost cried Thankfully I didn't punch a hole in it!

Moral is, if at all possible, avoid forcing things! But sometimes cases are pretty stuborne and you have to. Oh, well!
