I am not personally defending Galileo, nor Rotten dot com. While my personal beliefs tend to lean against organized religion, I was merely having fun with the topic. I did, however, do a bit of Googlewhacking, and found this link, which (given the source) may or may not be somewhat biased. Interesting story...

Just so you know what I was thinking-

I didn't assume you were defending Galileo, it is that I find the lives of Galileo and others fascinating. There is in general a "Paul Bunyon" image of scientists put forward without a true understanding of the individual. Sort of like how Washington is depicted as this flawless, selfless, all wise individual that was until recently put forward in American History. When I said you ought to look into Galileo, I meant that he was a fascinating man at a personal level and that you might find his life interesting beyond his theories.

In answer to the original question.... " I'm just curious if anyone knows of any prominent scientists throughout history that were Christian"

Here are a few notables:

Blaise Pascal

Isaac Newton

Michael Faraday

This was just a quick search on one site. Interestingly the Royal Society was founded by John Wallis in the UK in the 17th Century...

<< The motto adopted by the organization was, "Nothing by mere authority." Almost every famous scientist of Britain has since been a member, including Sir Isaac Newton. The Christian roots of modern, self-replicating science run deep. Those who think faith must blind us to fact should look again at the history of the formation of the Royal Society. >>
