They keep saying "just like anyone else we aren't perfect" in defense of all the Christian BS. So what's the point of being a Christian then? You'd think if God were really whispering stuff into their ears they could be better role models for all us heathens.

Any Christian will tell you that he is a Christian by no merit whatsoever on his own part. "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy, He saved us." Titus 3:5.

The only difference is that Christians have come to a point first of all where they recognize they're screwed up "heathens" as you put it who need God's mercy. Then, secondarily, they recognize God's application of mercy toward all of mankind and accept it for themselves.

Sometimes in sharing this Hot Deal they do it with the wrong tone and people wind up feeling judged or recognize notes of condescension that sometimes aren't even there. Christianity never claims that it's followers are perfect -- only forgiven.

So why do they still act as foolish as anyone else, when say, Buddhist monks or Native American shamen live selfless simple lives of peace and helping others.

Well... some of my ancestors were Native American, and some of them were not peaceful. In fact, war happened. Different cultural context but you would still be dead even if it was not considered murder.

Just dispelling another myth

What myth? You missed the point. Christians are unimpressive in their behavoir when contrasted with other groups. That is, "enlightenment" is not something that is exclusive to any belief or spiritual path, so seems like absolutism just compensates for insecurity.

The problem NR9 (or one of them) is what is a Christian? One who says he is, or one that follows the teachings of Christ? Or perhaps what others define as Christian? If the Pope went around killing babies, then declared there is no inconsistency with being a christian, then I would maintain that he is NOT a christian as I understand the use of the term.. Anyway, I am going to drop this as this is a NART, and I have risen to the bait too often here. I would be willing to continue in PM. but I am hoping this thing will go away.
