christening gift question

I need AT's advice -- I'm going to a christening in 2 months for my niece (I'll be her godfather).

my niece will be less than 6 months old at the time of the christening... do I get a gift that the parents would use, something that a baby would like, or something nice that the parents would put away till my niece got a little older (ie: jewelry)?

Why are you giving a gift? They should be giving you one for taking on the responsibility of being the godfather.

my god parents both got me jewelry (a cross and the letter of my first name) when I was christened (@ the same age)
