Choppy video using USB cam

Posted in Video section couple days ago and got no response, so I thought I'd pose to larger audience.

System: ASUS P2B-LS w/BIOS 1012, P3/450, 256MB, Seagate X-15 Ultra160 SCSI, Win98SE.

Tinkered with settings in provided software, but even 30fps is still choppy. Limitation of USB? Need faster CPU? IRQ sharing?

Thoughts?
