Choppy sound

My sound has become choppy in Indiana jones and the emperor's tomb. It never did this before. How can I diagnose this problem. Im using onboard ac97 with the latest drivers.

From my past experience AC97 onboard sound caused problems for me, after my computer got older the sound stopped working, and then on another motherboard the volume that it was outputting (while all system settings were at max) was much lower

What are you doing using onboard sound? Spend the 50 er so bucks on a 3rd party...Save yourself the headache

what CPU is on the rig? my old toshiba is a 450 k6/2 and intergrated audio, under heavy CPU usage, the sound would skip. Not fun.

Im thinking about buying the audigy 2 this month, any other cards recommended over this, since im only using a nice 2.1 setup

ahhh ok. i don't think that game is stressing that CPU that much.

Do you plan on only using 2.1s and that's it? Audigy2 is a nice card.

Now the logon sound is stuttering. it never did this before. I think i might just get a sound card. the startup services haven't changed so i don't think its the cpu level. any idea why this happens?Just the crappy sound device?
