I?ve just upgraded to an Athlon XP 1800+ with an ECS K7S5A motherboard so that I can do some video editing. I was editing before on someone else?s computer?A P3 933mhz.
What I usually do after I transfer the Digital video is I back it up by making high quality mpeg 2?s. The software I?m using is Ulead video studios.
When I play back the mpeg 2?s, they?re very choppy. They played smoothly on the P3 set up. The Athlon rig has an ATI Xpert 2000, and the P3 has a rage pro 128. They both use the same drivers and are basically the same card.
I?ve got all the latest codecs in both systems, and I?m playing back in Widows media player 7.X. The Athlon system uses win 98 while the P3 has windows 2000.
It was slow, but got the job done.
The ?high quality? mpeg is 720x480 resolution (deinterlaced and ?best? sample quality) with 256 bit 41000 khz sound.
I can also see that the picture quality is different between the DV and the Mpeg on the Athlon machine, but could hardly tell the difference with the P3.
Anyone know what I can do to get the video to play back on the computer smoothly?
