Hello,
When I play Half-Life: Counter-Strike, it runs very smoothly at first, but then becomes quite choppy, seemingly at random points. The choppiness goes away and comes back randomly as well, but it never happens in the first, say, 30 minutes.
The game was working perfectly a couple months ago, and then I changed monitors. I believe it worked after I changed monitors also, but then stopped working at some point. I'm not sure what could have caused this.
To try to fix it, I've reformatted, lowered hardware acceleration, lowered windows resolution, lowered amount of bits in video, and have reinstalled the monitor and video card drivers many many times. I have a GeForce Ti4600 graphics card, which should be quite capable of handling Counter-Strike with no choppiness at all.
Additionally, my system (Windows XP) takes about three minutes to restart each time. Should this be instantaneous or is this fairly normal (I typically have a decent amount of programs open and I know it has to do things like system restore points and such)?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
chis
