Choosing socket 939 motherboard

Hi!I am new to this forum.I want to upgrade my motherboard.I am not an exprienced computer user.I am in dilemma which of the following mobo to choose.MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum or MSI K8N Neo4 SLI(not Platinum version). Both same price.(approx).
My current system:
ASUS A8V-E Deluxe,AMD Athlon64 3000+ winchester S939,512+512 mb dual channel PC3200 DDR SDRAM(Hynix,I think),128 MB PCI-E ASUS Extreme AX300 SE-T(ATI Radeon X300) Video card,Pinnecle PCTV PCI capture,tuner Card, Samsung ATA 160GB,500W PSU with 24 pin connector.

I mainly use the system for Video encoding & capturing, some image editing, DVD writing, occassional gaming.
I wanted to reduce the encoding time by 40%,someone suggested to either overclock or go for dualcore processor.Since I do not want to overclock,I looked for a dualcore.I was shocked to know because of chipset limitation of VIA KT890,dualcore is not supported in ASUS A8V-E Deluxe. Moreover,NB chipset was running at erratic speed with noise.Suddenly, it died down a couple of weeks back.

I am in favour of SLI because 1.it came into market after few months of indroduing K8N Neo4 PL,so some of the problems might have been rectified if there was any.
2.It has creative onboard audio 24 bit.
But,I have the following doubts.
1.If I go for SLi mobo, will the Asus video ATI card work in single slot mode?
2.Latter on,if I go for two new sli cards, will it improve my productivity atleast marginally or SLI is only for games?
3.Since the SLI mobo does not have extra pci-e 4x,1x slots, will I be loosing out in the future.
4.user reviews in Newegg.com are more in favour of MSI K8N Neo4 SLI compared to MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum(SLI had least no. of issues)
5.Should I go for MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum?
6.What about memory incompatibilty of MSI mobos with some modules?
please help me choose between the two boards.Your suggestions will be appriciated.
Thank you all.

Welcome to the forums.

SLI only comes into play when you are running graphics intensive programs. In most users cases that is games.

There will be no problem running your X300 on either board.

I do however have one question to ask. Why do you want SLI. Firstly it offers no benefit for ATI users, Secondly you are using a lowish end graphics card.
SLI boards are all high end boards. My advice would be to go for an nForce 4 / Ultra board and get an X2 CPU.

1. Uhh I dont think that much changed.
2. Always a plus
3. Whats a 1X 4X slot?
4. Dont base purchasing decisions on Newegg reviews, a lot of them are n00bs!
5. Thats up to you to prioritize, personally SLI is too expensive.
6. All mobo's are incompatible with some memory, as long as you have name brand you will be ok.

You should check out the ECS KN1 Extreme. I have 2 of these and they are an excellent board, many features, but no SLI which is a waste in my opinion no real benefit except in games that are very graphically intense as stated before, The KN1 can be flashed to support dual core cpu's which both of mine have been, here is the link to the manufacturer... http://www.ecsusa.com/products/kn1.html and you can google for reviews, some talk about a noisy northbridge fan, but honestly, both of mine are very quiet. I have been very happy with these and am using 2 gigs PC3200 dual channel ram in both. with a 64 3000+ winchester in one and a 64 3000+ venice core in the other. I use Kingmax ram in both, Kingston didnt like the boards, as stated before, all boards have ram they dont like, but usually major brands are ok... I dont see as many problems with them on here as I do with the MSI neo's...

when games can run very well on a single video card, there is no need for sli, in my opinion. right now sli is reserved for people who have too much money or who want to enlarge their e-peen.
