Choosing hardware for Intel overclock setup...

I'm trying to decide on what to buy for a Intel overclocked system. I have everything but the Processor and Motherboard and ram, since I'm salvaging parts from my current setup.

I know I've been asking about this stuff a lot lately, but I've gone back on what i was thinking and I really want to try and save some money on this.

I'm planning on buying 2 GB of 667mhz HP Ram for $15 after MIR at costcentral.com.

I've been unable to decide on the processor and motherboard though. It seems like I have a lot of options. My minimum goal is to hit 3.0ghz on one of the cheaper Allendale processors, but I'm trying to spend VERY little on this.

One thing I could do is get an E4500 bundled with an ECS motherboard at Fry's (There's one of these pretty darn often) for $120. The problem there is that the ECS motherboard sucks, but I could BSEL mod the E4500 and then maybe hit 3.0ghz. If anybody has tips on BSEL modding, please let me know.

Another option is to buy the E2180. I'm hoping that, along with the E2180 for $71 at Clubit.com (with a LGA 775 motherboard) that I would buy a motherboard that is $70 or less, with which I could hit 3.0ghz, though this seems unlikely. I'd pay $80 at newegg.com and buy a good open-box motherboard there for $70 or $60 that could help me hit 3.0ghz or above. If someone could recommend a cheap motherboard for this setup that would get me to 3.0ghz that would be nice. I was also thinking about buying the E2140 instead of the E2180, but at $72 I'm not sure that I feel like it's worth it, since I'd have to spend at least $90 on a motherboard to get 3.0ghz.

The final option I'm thinking is buying an E1200 and overclocking that to 3.2 ghz. The plus side on this one, is that I can buy the E1200 and a IP35-E or Gigabyte DS3L for $149, and then keep that motherboard and feel confident about upgrading to a Wolfdale in a year or two to use on that motherboard. The downside of this is the obvious lack of cache.

Every penny in savings counts on this.

What are your thoughts? Any recommendations or suggestions?

Thanks

Get the Gigabyte GA-P31-S3G board for $70, and an E2140 at Microcenter for $60. Plus tax/shipping, you're still under $150, and it should give an easy 3.2Ghz.
Skip the ECS mobo and the BSEL modding if you can help it. I'd also avoid the E1200, if you do any gaming.

yep cheapening out with a chintzy mb is usually just a waste of money...then in a couple of months you will want to buy a proper mb. Better to get a P35 board now. They will be releasing a cheapo Penryn this spring you could upgrade to. Or go with an cheap AMD X2 setup, which are perfectly fine for games, internet or just about anything else. I just built a complete new AMD X2 HDMI system for $160 incl mb, x2, 1g ram, 250g hd, case, 400w sparkle.
