Hello Ananadtech team, I am having a very hard time finding comparisons between the Canon HV20/30 and hte Sony UX20. I know the differences between the Canon HV20/30 are minimal, but I don't know much about the UX20.

This is for my dad and I like the UX20 since he can record to a DVD. I realize it will not be in 1080P mode but at least he'll have that option if he so chooses to. Does the UX20 do 24 (or was it 27?) frames per second in 1080P only like the Canon? Is the lens as good? Any suggs? I'm all ears~

Forget 24P as an argument unless you want it to look like 'film'. And the 'film' look is also lighting, depth of field, audio, etc.

My opinion is go with the Canon because tape is more reliable. More work too. but more reliable. The HV30 is a nice camera, but it will feel a little 'plasticy'. HDV editing can be computer intensive either way, so remember that.
