Here are the avaliable cities:

Pleasanton, CA (currently training here for a week)
Long Beach, CA
Dallas, TX
Nashville, TN

I wanted to go to Portland, OR bad and was up there for a couple days, but there are no openings there right now, although there will be a couple in the following year. So it will be at the bottom of my list.

I have been to all the office locations and like them. Long Beach office is right on the beach.

I need to make a top 5 list by the end of the week.

Cost of living increase is 16% in Pleasanton and 12% in Long Beach.

Update: Looks like I will be living in Dallas, TX. Thanks for the help guys

have you considered that vast differences in cost of living between the places?

other things to consider: climate, traffic (long beach will make you tear out your organs and eat them), schools, job growth, yada yada yada

Yes I have. Pleasanton, CA is gansta expensive but very nice. The coworkers in this office location are great to hangout with.

Traffic will suck anywhere I go cept Nashville, TN. However, I am usually on the road tuesday - thursday and only in the office mondays and fridays.

Is your company going to pay you adequately in relation to where you choose to live?

I like the DFW area too. I was in Fort Worth, TX for 2.5 months earlier htis year.

Yep, weather is great except jul-aug it can be damn hot
Job market/cost of living is second to none.

DFW is like an island of 7mil people in middle of rural America, you can find all the entertainment and culture you want in the downtown areas, or you can drive just and hour or so and be out in the country. Or drive 2 hours to Austin and soak up some college town atmosphere.

Nashville. Weather/climate is good, near the mountains, good music scene (indie not country). Growing very quickly but not huge like the other choices, better cost of living.

As a Fort Worth resident for over 20 years, I'd have to recommend Nashville. Life is too short to live in Dallas. :D

Pleasanton is nice, used to live in Dublin next door. You are close to Oak/Berk and SF. You can drive pretty much anywhere in the Bay Area in about 30 minutes or less. Houses are $700K+, but you get nice weather.

LA is a pit, but of course so is Dallas. Never been to Nashville, might be nice if you can stand a pure white segregated city.

Considering they're not making your pay comparable to the region, you have to evaluate what you want more from a job coworker comorodory (sp?) or money in the bank.

My vote goes for dallas. With a city that large, who needs the former when you can make friends fast.

I've heard good things about Nashville, especially the music scene (I hate pop country, but there's a ton of other good roots/alternacountry/bluegrass etc. ferment going on). It would be less expensive than cali and you would have a cool cultural scene.

California would be cool if you can afford it. Ask your coworkers how they manage, of course.

Why would anyone move to Dallas if given a choice

Quality of life is much more than maximizing your money. Think about your leasure life, places to visit, shopping, chicks, etc.

Stay away from the west coast, you can't afford it. Besides, we have enough people already.

It's the motto of a famous BBQ place in Fort Worth... the Railhead. Goes back to a long rivalry between Dallas and Fort Worth. What most people fail to realize is that Dallas, Fort Worth, and Denton have grown into one large metroplex of 5 million+ people...

If the pay were good enough, san fran. If not, probably nashville. I dislike LA and am lukewarm towards Dallas.

dont forget that texas has NO STATE INCOME TAX. I had to make a similar decision earlier this year for my job. I could choose where to live from a list of 30+ cities (pretty much all major cities with large airports since I will be traveling every week).

I narrowed it down between Dallas and NYC. Dallas, because that is where I'm originally from, and it is cheap to live there. NYC because its awesome and a bunch of my friends are now living/working there.

I ended up choosing Dallas. Just from a taxes perspective, I would be saving over $6k year (since NYC has both state and city taxes), and add that to the difference in cost of living and it was too big of a difference to choose NYC
