Choosing a mobo for 805 dualie

I noticed that the reviews on this cpu used a 945P chipset mobo but you can use the 865PE mobos and stick with ddr ram rather than coughing up for ddr2. How big a hit will this cause?

won't really cause much of a hit at all, if you already have DDR and an AGP video card, might as well go for an Asus P5P800-SE. There isn't as wide of selection of 865 based motherboards that support the dual cores, but I know that one does since I"m using it.

Thanks again stevty. Will I need a strong AGP card since this rig will be exclusively for vid encoding or can I get away with a cheapie? Also, I noticed some NIC issues at Newegg reviews among other things and was wondering how the board has behaved for you.

Don't need a high end video card for video encoding, I am using an Nvidia 6200 with my 805. I haven't had any issues with the P5P800 SE and the onboard NIC works perfectly fine.

Stevty, what ram divider are you using on the 805?

Not using a ram divider, since the 8N-SLI allows you to set the ram to an exact number. If I set it to 667 it runs at 667, if I set it to 623 it runs it a 623, it's independant of the FSB on that motherboard.

Oops, meant the Asus P5P800 mobo. BTW, is that the SE version of the mobo?

Ah, I have PC4000 DDR on my P5P800-SE, so don't need a divider for it. But yeah the dividers do work, but if you use PC3200 you won't need to use one unless you manage to get over 4ghz. you have to use the SE version, the other versions of P5P800 don't support dual cores
