Choosing a CPU cooler

Hi guys,

I am considering converting my water cooled X2 back to air cooling - I don't have a very effective cooling block.

I know that there are quite a few very good air coolers on the market, but I can only get hold of a few of them. Please have a look at my selection and comment. Also, the Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme Heatsink fits the 939 with an addapter. Would it be forth the extra cash to get it over the Thermalright Ultra-120 Heatsink?

1. Thermalright Ultima-90 Heatsink

2. Thermalright Ultra-120 Heatsink

3. Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme Heatsink

4. Thermalright IFX-14 CPU Heatsink

I have seen there coolers come out tops in the Tom's Hardware reviews.

I am managing to OC the CPU FSB from 200MHz to 229MHz (2748MHz) stable. In winter I was able to get it to about 236Mhz (2832MHz).

Of course there is the option of a different water block like Zalman ZM-WB5 CPU Waterblock

Many thanks in anticipation.

Also check newegg's open box section. I get all my coolers there.

I live in South Africa, so have no way of getting anything from the likes of Newegg - sorry.

Unless it's 30C in your room, you don't really need the biggest and best heatsinks for a dual core, even if it is 939.

I sometimes get 35C (ambient) in my room. That is what I sespected. The extreme is probably overkill, but as a last round upgrade on cooling, would it still be worth it?

I was able to do 2.6-2.7 on my x2 3800+ w/ an arctic ac64 freezer pro. I lapped the heatsink and ihs. My idle temps were ~40, and I used crystal cpuid to allow three speed brackets each with their own voltage instead of c'n'q. I still have that lapped ac64 if you're interested, though it is a 92mm fan and you'll get better cooling w/ a 120mm fan cooler. pm me if you are interested

Yeah. It brought my temps way down from a Zalman 9300.
