I am a Senior in High School in Seattle. I think my first choice is going to be Colorado College which is located in Colorado Springs. I am going to go visit next week. I want to stay on the west coast, and have been researching some colleges in California, such as Loyola Marymount and the Claremont Colleges. I really am not sure what I want to do in college. Photography and writing are interests of mine right now. I am "interested" in video/film (and loyola marymount is the place for that), but have basically no experience with it, so maybe i wont like it, who knows. Because my dad teaches a Seattle University I can go to any jesuit school for free (Loyola Marymount). There's something to be said about not having huge debts after college, but then again my family makes very little money and i have a decent gpa (3.4 core), so i could probably get fairly good financial scholorships if i went to an expensive school like colorado college. Does anyone have any experience with the schools that i mentioned.

I am almost 100% sure that colorodo college will be my first choice, but im not sure what other schools i should apply too. Hopefully i will be able to go visit some schools in california. Regarding the claremont colleges - does anyone know anything about pitzer and pomona? If you go to a claremont school can you take classes at the other claremont schools? Pomona is supposed to be really stuck up and i think its really hard to get into.

Any help/advice/info would begreatly appreciated.

I dont really know what i want to study, besides what i said in my post. We dont really have any money, so ide have to take out a loan or get lots of financial aid. SAT=1330.

I know you can take classes at the other claremont colleges if you're down there, and it's pretty common. I was hoping to go to Harvey Mudd, but the financial aid package wasn't enough to meet my needs. I was national merit with a 1590 SAT, and was only offered a $2000 academic scholarship, but the other schools might have better packages. It was a great place to visit in November (coming from Iowa), and didn't seem to have the smog/noise of Caltech in Pasadena. Definitely worth a visit - if it's not what you're looking for, you have other options established, and if it is it won't hurt to appl

ryzmah- i like how you discretely slipped your SAT score in there :)

As for the college, Cal Poly SLO, and UCLA both have fairly decent art and design programs.

Thanks ;) - I realize it's essentially a measurement of standardized test taking ability (not intelligence), but he mentioned planning to use an academic scholarship and it's nice to know what the chances are going in. I know Pomona was a top-10 liberal arts school when I was applying so the competition for money is pretty strong.

apply to a wide range of schools. hopefully you can collect as many acceptance offers as you can, and you can slowly make better more informed decisions throughout the process. always nice to keep your options open. Good Luck!

Some people do not go to college to get an education; they only go so that they can get a job. In that case, a small liberal atrs college may not be the best choice. The Claremont schools are excellent if you want an education. One of my best friends is a graduate of Harvey Mudd College.
