choosing 40ns or 45ns rdram

I recently helped someone with his system build.....he had 4 sticks total...2 45ns and 2 40ns....as long as they were installed as pairs it was fine, but you mix them, computer would not boot.
So if you just have 1 of each, I think you'll have problems....of course this may differ from board to board, not 100% sure....but with my experience, the pairs of rdram must be identical.
