I'm currently running:

PII X2 unlocked to X4 at 3.5Ghz
4GB DDR2
8800GT
22" Monitor @1650

I know that the thing holding me back at this point is the 8800GT. It's starting to really show it's age with newer games that come out.

Problem is I am A) on a very tight budget B) have no clue what card would be a decent and noticible upgrade for an econimcal price would be.

Suggestions on a card?
Thanks in advance.

Edit: I have no allegiance to NV vs ATI. I have always had NV, and "trust" them. Though I understand that ATI is now the performance king. I actually just tossed a 4350 into my WHS/XBMC machine and I have to say that the installation of the drivers was a MAJOR PIA (due to WHS I am sure).

Gtx 460 768mb model is my first choice @ 1600x1050.
BUT
Whats your budget?

Well I guess I don't "know" really.
I mean will I see a DECENT upgrade for $100? Or will I need to jump to $200? I guess somwhere in that window, but, as always the cheaper the better.

5770 is a good upgrade and a bit cheaper but also a bit slower.

The gtx460 should be 2x as fast as your 8800gt and the 5770 mabe 70% faster then your 8800gt.

Now you just need to decide how much you wanna pay and how fast you need. :)

And to answer your question NO nothing NEW for 100$ is a real good upgrade.

Thanks! and yeah I'm doing some quick reading.
Wondering if I can sqeak another month or so out of my GT8800, with hopes there is a decent holiday sale on the 460.

What's the "right" tool to OC NV cards now?

gtx 460 768 is the card you want. I got mine for $146 shipped no rebate, I've seen it as low as $140 shipped AR at newegg. the oc rumors are no exaggeration, I went as high as 905/1810/4400 before dropping it back somewhat for 24/7 use. Just keep your eyes peeled for one <$150 and jump on it.

+1 for afterburner. msi partnered with rivatuner's creater, it incorporations the commonly used rivatuner functions but is much more user friendly now. iirc it only works on msi and evga cards, but that might have changed recently.

your budget will dictate on what video card you should buy...
