Hi all,

I saw xtknight's uber-post but it's too much to take in all at one time. I'm looking for an LCD, preferably a 19" or larger, and trying to keep it under $500 if possible (no more than $750 for sure!). Since I know absolutely jack-squat about monitors & LCD's, I need your guys help. This monitor is going to one of our marketing guys, but he's also our graphics designer too, so I was thinking something geared towards apps like PhotoShop, etc. (no games). Preferably a SamSung or NEC model, but if there's a high-quality no-name or generic brand (we got a few Sceptre's floatin around the office too), I'm open to all suggestions. Help plz! Thanks :)

Hmmm... Pick some of them then go and see them for yourself. You may buy any other equipment for your PC by looking at reviews but the monitor is something personal, unless you want to use it for e-mail exhange, but that's not the case.

that's a big budget for a 19" lcd, for $700 you can get a dell 24", for ~$350 you can get a NEC 19gx2... very good monitor. For $300 you can get a viewsonic vx2025, and for $600 you can get an NEC 20.1" monitor. Also: there is a samsuing 20.1" fullscreen for $280 shipped out there somewhere... you could do a dual display with a deal like that!:D:D The nec monitors would be closest to proffesional monitors, but the dell 24" is also very good. If you've got the money, you will be satisfied.

Edit: Dangit, should've read the rest of the OP post  . For graphic design, I would go for the Samsung 215TW as well

The Samsung 215TW is more suited for photo-editing than the NEC and it cost $500.

215TW - uses an S-PVA Panel
VX2025 - uses an P-MVA

I would stay away from the VX2025 due to the panel for sure for graphic design. Secondly altough S-PVA is good S-IPS is still better for any graphic or color critical work.

For a 4:3 (full frame) with S-IPS look at the following

NEC 1970NX
NEC 1990FX
NEC 2070NX

For a 16:10 (widescreen) with S-IPS check out the following

NEC 20WMGX2

thats what i figured but why is everyone recommending the NEC 20WMGX2 over the 215TW for those who do photo editing. I must have seen this occurance 5 times in the last day or two....

The S-IPS panels supposedly have the best color reproduction as well as the best viewing angles, so are usually touted to be the best for graphics work. MVA panels are a good compromise between fast response time and color reproduction. MVA panels also have the best blacks and contrast ratios. For general usage, MVA panels have the best all around value (IMO), but for graphics work an IPS monitor is probably best.

This one is an IPS monitor, I believe, and a very good price.
