Congrats. Miguel Tejeda is a better player but Chavez is more marketable and has better defense.

Now if they can resign Hudson, Mulder and Zito to long term contracts... :Q.

They are keeping Chavez because they don't have an up and coming Potential Star Player at Thirdbase like they do at Shortstop.

I don't think Tejada is a better player. He was inconsistent last year and not as good as he was in '02. Chavez didn't have a breakout year, mostly due to his problems against left-handed pitching, but combined with his GG defense I think he was more valuable at the hot corner than Tejada was at short. Tejada brings emotion, for sure, but Chavez is younger and overall the guy I'd rather have on my team.

Some people are writing off the A's this year but assuming Mulder is healthy the pitching staff should still be one of the best in baseball. Hopefully some of the new acquisitions can add some pop to the lineup. The offense was horrendous last year.

Finally, Oakland keeps a great player. Chavez is a stud at 3B, now if they can retain the big 3 pitchers and get a little more help with some experienced playoff players they should go somewhere in the playoffs for quite some time. Go As!!!
