I assumed they were females. I used to catch chickens in a chicken house for spare cash when I was a teen, and I think those were all females.

They almost assuredly were all females. Most roosters are culled not long after their birth.

Thank you.

He was very protective over his flock. The slightest noise and he would come running. From the time he took charge of the flock till he had his stroke, we did not lose a single chicken.

He did not allow the girls to fight between themselves. If two hens got into a fight, he would jump between them and put stop to it.

The dogs would not go anywhere around him. Instead of walking through the flock, the dogs would walk around the flock.

Unlike a rhode island red rooster I gave my cousin, he runs from everything.

I have been crying a lot over the past few days.

Did you euthanize him?

If so, don't fret too much. Chickens probably don't experience death the same as us. We're more aware of the loss so it's the most excruciating thing we have to go through. But chickens just observe, not process. So it wouldn't be as bad for him as it was for you.

TH you might need these for your roosters.

No.

My wife and I provided for him, but his condition worsened. It was like his brain was having a series of strokes. We suspect he had some genetic disorders. One wattle was longer than the other, and his spurs were not growing.

My wife and I traded for 2 new roosters, a buff orpington and a brown leghorn. The buff acts like he is going to be a good rooster. The brown leghorn has not started crowing or showing dominance over the hens. I am not sure how the leghorn is going to work out.

Those are some spoiled chickens.
