Can not afford the 260 for just one game my wife wants to play. Is there a less expensive way for her to play this game. Just wondering what the minimum would be?

What game are you talking about?

What budget do you have? And are there any preferred e-tailers for price referencing?

The 260 gtx is old and used ones are available for ~$25 on ebay?
It's probably going to be hard to find anything better.

Game is Cities Skylines, not wanting better just cheaper that will function. I don't do Ebay, nothing but bad issues there. Other than that where ever is fine.

Other than ebay, I don;t know where you can get a $20 video card. These have not been sold in 10 years or something like that.

Better off with GT730. It's easier to find, runs cooler, and I think it's still within the price bracket.

I am the king of ultra budget gaming :) I work with tons of pro-bono refurbs for sale at a resale shop to raise funds for a food bank. We also get a lot of kids excited about Fortnite, Minecraft, etc, that can't afford a new PC or gaming console, so we donate more than a few light gaming/home PCs to families at the food bank.

Because I deal with such a huge volume of disparate hardware configurations, I start to find stellar values in the mix.

One of those happens to be the AMD FirePro V5900.

It's a 2GB GDDR5 card that shows up in the $20 range, like so :

Radeon V5900 2GB

And here's that very card playing World of Tanks like a boss :

V5900 in gaming action!

This is a great option due to the 2GB of GDDR5. They come EXTREMELY underclocked, so grab MSI Afterburner and crank it up a fair bit and it will get even better, far more than you might expect. Even stock it's more than competent though.

As for what the V5900 is, it's a downclocked workstation variant of the Radeon 69xx series. Even though it's a workstation card, it works fine in gaming, and has drivers up to current date/OS :

Drivers for W7/W8/W10 64-Bit

Specs for V5900 are :

40nm Cayman GPU, DirectX 11.2
2GB GDDR5 on 256-Bit Bus @ 64GB/Sec
614Gflops
75W TDP - NO PCIe Power Cable Needed!!

They're just incredibly unknown GPUs to most people, so the price is absolute peanuts.

And should you have a bit more budget, there's the absurdly great deal on 4GB FirePro S7000, a 2.4Tflop, DX12, highly overclockable secret beast :

4GB S7000

Now stock, these run just a hair better than a Radeon 7850/7870, only with completely passive cooling, and 4GB (!!) of GDDR5. I've managed to OC with a simple 80mm fan plopped on it, well up there to 1220/1500, which puts it into another league.

Anyways, think outside the box. PS, it would help to know which game she is wanting to play, and the system you're putting it into (What CPU, Ram, OS, Power Supply)

Just be careful with used RX 500 and GTX 1000 series cards because there are "mining" variants which only have single DVI output instead of multiple outputs normal cards have (DP, HDMI, and DVI)
some are headless and some have mining BIOSes flashed on them.

People need to be careful.

Yes, I was given 2 cards, and could not get them to work at all, even after I tried to re-flash the bios.

I would be looking for a used 290(X) or 390(X) or Fury. Or 480/580

Except for the fact, that he does "not" use ebay. And wants a card, as cheap as possible for "1" game ? Everything the OP had stated has been ignored. He clearly stated..."cheap and no ebay". For all we know, even $20 is too expensive for him.

If $20 is too expensive for him, then he is most likely out of luck. It would be good to know his budget, and also the specs of the current computer.

this is DX10 card from 2008, try to get something a little less outdated, it's also power hungry and too big for how it performs.
unless you are doing it for nostalgia, or someone gave you for free or something, there is very little justification to go this route

Can't afford 10-year-old $20 GPU (on ebay) == too poor to play PC games, IMHO. Sorry.

Ok, sometimes I can be a jerk, sorry. What I meant to really say is, even at the extreme budget end, PC gaming can still be somewhat pricey, and you may be disappointed with they results if you can't quite afford it.

Consider buying a GT730 GDDR5 version, or a GTX650(ti) card, with 2GB GDDR5.

Or get one of those new R7 350 cards that Newegg has, I think that they are close to what a (Radeon) 250X and 260 were. 2GB GDDR5 for $65, new.

Or, watch the "Freebies" thread in the "Hot Deals forum" here, someone might be offering a GPU, for the price of postage.
