So the jackboots decided that they can tax the hell out of people who smoke(recent tax increase) but now they ban smoking in all but casinos and vfws. How the hell do you exempt casinos but not bars?

IMO, I don't care if they ban it in restaurants and such but to tell a bar owner that they can't allow it is BS. There are plenty of smoke free bars opening up - we don't need the gov't to dictate these sorts of things. PLUS if it really is a "health" thing then they should be banning the sale of it...

Good. Tobacco and pot are the same and the fate of one should be the fate of the other. Of course tobacco is addictive to some people so maybe it's more like cocaine.

Hey, the home of the Freedom, Faith and Family party just ripped 400 kids from their parents and families based on religious practices.
Maybe its hypocracy week.

i think it would have been better to ban it in all indoor public venues. This is happening in alot of places, and now many places are starting to ban it in limited outdoor public areas.

for instance, smaking is now banned everywhere on my campus except for a handful of designated spots.

In hawaii you can't be within 500' of a public building. So, you can't just step out side of a smoke but you gotta walk a good ways out in the parking lot! ;)

I'm all for it! Tho, I'd be kinda bummed if the made MJ legal and then we all couldn't fire up at apple bees or something! hahaha, Oh well! Break out the brownies! :)

I guess this is why I'm Pro 'choice'.... You choose when you wanna throw on the seat belt, take a hit off the bong, wear a helmet... Have an abortion...going through a strip dance everytime you fly.... I guess you guys don't mind giving up your rights...

Most people around here are willing to give up rights for "anything" it seems.... Americans are too STUPID to think for themselves so they gotta tell you that they can tap your phone whenever wherever with out any probable cause.... It's disgusting isn't it?

Rights? What rights? I wonder what right is next? Maybe a right to trail... ooops, gone! How about....

I disagree for a couple of reasons:

1. Tobacco is chemically addictive. If you believe pot is, too, please post some evidence to support the claim.

2. As a former rock musician, I've been around more than enough drug abuse, but even if you assume pot is as carcinogenic and otherwise as deadly as tobacco, I've never seen anyone who could smoke 20 1/4" thick joints in one day of anything worth bothering to roll, let alone light.

I mentioned that in my second sentence. Also, the outrage against laws of tobacco, I should think, ought also to apply to pot. I am actually opposed to the government having any say in what I do with my body, but I do respect others rights to clean air and understand why they insist on it. I smoke nothing at all, however.

I find that people who are addicted to substances or psychologically committed to them for one reason or another, are sometimes very egotistical in insisting on their rights to use things that pollute other people's space. I don't like regulation but I don't much care for selfish assholes either. I see no reason why somebody walking in a forest couldn't smoke anything they want, and I don't want to eat next to some guy with a cigar.

It really won't affect me as I didn't usually smoke when out due to being with friends that don't smoke. You know...being polite and all. Now when we go out it's usually to a non-smoking place anyway.
HOWEVER, this is about the principle of the matter. Our socialist overlords have decided we can still buy the stuff - just can't smoke it except for a few places. F'n nazis...

How pissed off will you be when guns are banned?

They already are effectively banned in the New York metro area.

You cannot even buy ammo without special registered permisssion.

Just do me a favor, don't throw your spent cancer sticks out your car window while driving on the freeway, and I won't chuck my special smoker seeking coins at you.

I shouldn't have to share your experience of wallowing in being a complete automatic-man tool, and I shouldn't have to smell that shit while driving.

Nasty ass slags. *cough cough*

That being said... I actually do feel bad that smokers are being banned left and right from places, bars especially. That's one place where I EXPECT to smell that shit. You're still nasty, though.

Don't most states already have indoor smoking bans?

The only part of the OP that resonates with me is the casino exemption (which is obviously directly tied to the influence of lobbyists lining the legislature's pockets). Smokers don't, IMO, have a "right" to pollute the air others breathe any more than I have the right to pour antifreeze into strangers' drinks.

Soon it will be no alcohol allowed in your blood system if you have keys in your pocket.

You go into the bar and check your keys, in order to get them back you have to pass a breathilizer test. think how many innocents would be saved.

I very seldom drink and go to bars even less so I guess I could care less. If it saves lives then it must be a good idea.

Just a few things I found in a brief search. I'm not trying to say that marijuana is as addictive as cigarrettes. In fact, very few things are. But to say that marijuana is not addictive, is really just a falsehood. I tried to post at least decently credible sources, the third source also cites all of its sources.

I think that's a bit excessive. In Georgia I think the law we have makes pretty decent sense. Smoking is not allowed in any public building where children under 18 are allowed.

I also think that a rule that would make more sense for distance outside while smoking, is that you should not be allowed to smoke within 25' of the entrance to a public building. That's far enough away to avoid stray smoke, and it isn't too excessive.
