i have a choice of two jobs

#1: 3rd year ive been working there, factory, i operate a machine and pretty much tell ppl what to do, and go up to work on the computer when they need me

#2: build an airplane with a friend and his rich rich uncle

#1: 10.50$ an hour, 12.20$ an hour if I bitch and tell him that i deserve it (i could get it almost 100% sure) 330$ a week or 370$ a week
#2: 14$ an hour, 492$ a week thats all CLEAR in my pocket

#1 is 10 mins away
#2 is 45 mins away

#1 is an easy job, but its really hot in the factory in the summer, but at the same time #2 would also be pretty hot in a hangar i guess...

#2 id see my gf every night
#1 id have to live at my parents place for the summer, so id only see the gf on weekends

thus:
if I take # 1 my gf promises to slap me...hard... :-(

Heres the problem, I have to call up my boss tomorrow to tell him when im going to start work (im currently in college) and I wont get a confirmation for the #2 job until friday...

The boss @ #1 seems to like me a lot, he calls me up first, gets me a job and puts other ppl on the waiting list, so he likes the way I work...

What should I do? call up the boss and tell him im going to start the monday after, and not tell him anything about job #2 and then quit telling him I found a better job? or tell him I may be offered a job at 14$ an hour and risk him not liking me any more... lol

what are my options?
Thanks!

Oh, you mean a poll?

Positive contribution: #2 Seems to be more lucrative. I would tell my boss that an opportunity has come up that I don't want to miss. You aren't going to burn bridges by doing what is best for you. Your boss should understand.

#1 looks more beneficial to you. #2 involves building an airplane, which leads me to believe that you won't be working for him forever.

Tell Boss #1 either that (A) you're waiting on some mundane detail that he doesn't know about to tell him when you can start working or (B) just tell him the usual time when you'll start working. If you go with (B) and decide to take job #2, tell him ASAP and explain you just got offered this and have to take it for monetary reasons. He may try to offer you more money, which would be a plus. Either way, don't burn bridges @ job #1.

As to which job: personally I would go with #2. Unique experience, more money, living with parents = no living costs ;), and seeing your gf on the weekends means you two have hot steamy "its been a while" sex :D

well this is only a summer job.

Its just to get money for school next year

#1 is a dead end job in a factory, max pay if I become a member of the staff is like 17$ an hour

Im studying computers right now, and im thinking that building an airplane (ill be doing the avionics panel and a lot of fuselage) would be great on a CV...

I vote option #2. The extra commute time seems like a small price to pay for all of the benefits you could be getting.

Numbers look same to me

Since you have zero living costs, the next thing to consider is how much is the money difference important to you? One thing I will say is that enjoying the "good years" has its value. Last summer I worked four jobs for a total of about 50-60 hours per week. It paid off in the bank account, but I missed out on a lot of time to hang out with my gf (whom I live with) and in not being around a lot, she was having a hard time due to her family moving out of the country (LOOOOOOONG story). I regret working so damn much, because I wasn't there for her and I missed out on some good times that I probably won't have the opportunity to have. Now I'm graduating this year, probly will have a full-time job soon, and a "free summer" is now a thing of the past.

Weigh the money, weigh the value of being near your gf/friends, but also weigh the experience: does either job hold a particular value to a potential future career? If so, consider that also: real world experience can make or break getting a job you want later in life. My GPA sucks, but from my experience thus far is that I've got a better shot at getting the job I want over similar candidates with a higher GPA but zilch for experience.
