I only have around 2 minutes to respond to all of these replys but yea totally I understand what you are all saying. To reply to Step-Dawg's reply up here, I would answer: That my Dad has a professional sound and light company, my band has won numerous "battle of the bands" with 15+ bands participating. Our stage presence is unmatched, our singer interacts with the crowd, as well as the other guys.. but yea. College..

It's going to be a year before we even think about diving into the house deal.. we were talking about how much time we all needed to get our ****** together.. by that time I'll have a good idea where we are, where we are going, etc etc.. but i'll have from now until then to evaluate my options.

Going to college and being in a band = instant college groupies. Enjoy college and your youth but not at the expense of your education.

Go ahead and leave school. You can always go back. Just make sure you don't go into excessive debt while you're doing this experiment. That way, if it fails, you'll be able to pick up where you left off.

Get a loan and get in school, practice on the weekends with friends. Sell your desktop and get a laptop, moving around will be a lot easier.

Seems to me like you could ease your way into a possible solution without doing any of the drastic things mentioned.

Like other folks said, don't buy a duplex with your band. I know it seems like great financial sense to buy instead of rent, but once you start mixing friends with finances things can get VERY tricky. No matter how good of friends and human beings they are - you never know whats around the corner for any one of you. Not to mention that any equity/appreciation built up split four ways over 4 years is going to be nil, and in the meantime you'll have to pay water, garbage, sewer and that sort of stuff. I'd say rent a big house with a basement that's close to campus and have a great time.

Secondly, I wouldn't quit school right off, but I'd consider scaling down a bit. If being in school isn't the right thing for you right now, you'll figure that out just fine with 8 credits. And in fact, carrying the 15 or whatever you are will only cloud the issue when maybe you're just overloaded and actually could be happiest taking a scaled down class load.

The big responsibility in being an adult is finding the right balance of everything for you... personally, I split time between career, my band/gigs, my GF, and gaming. It's tough to manage all of the time but having the right mix keeps me from going insane. That's just my personality though - it's different for other folks, and I've always been envious of the types who can just go gung-ho for one thing their whole life, especially when there's no financial success for a couple of decades. Those people are very rare though, and if you were one of those types then you probably wouldn't have posted this all on ATOT.

Good luck :music:

If I was in your situation I would give college a chance once you have some stability in your life. College is learning about yourself and making decisions. Living at two homes is torture and is greatly compounding the problem. Have/Can you look into living on campus? I really would fix the living situation first, then you might realize that you have lots more time and you could continue college and your band. Spending two hours a day commuting in college must be rough...I rode my bike/walked and it was like 5/10 min each way. Try to get loans to pay for part of college, so you can focus on the things that are most important (college &/or your band).

Irreguarless, sell your desktop and get a laptop, since it sounds like you don't have much time to game on it anyways.

0. I just started College (Freshmen), Graduated top 17% of graduation HS class

2. I'm getting amazingly tired living at my mom and dad's houses (devorced) every other week. having to take a 35lb pc tower + cords/monitor, preferables, into a car and into another house every week.

my advice: retake english

Wowzers top 17% of your class?

Stay in school, keep the band as a side gig.

I might be forced to say in school. If I take anything less than 12 credits, not only am I not considered a full time student for health insurance under my parents policy.. but I will loose my stafford loan that i pay 6 months after i graduate..

im going to explode.. if I could pick, I wish there were ad's in the paper for basements or large studio rooms for rent. I could live at home still, go to college, and on weekends, go to the rented place (cheap is a must, like 100-200 a month, its just a studio room, no heat/water/sewage, etc)... and i can continue to live off of 80 dollars or so a week. also, i will be talking with mom/dad to see if i can just live with one for.. i dont know, a month lets say.. before going to the other house..

Just try to picture your life in the next five years right when you would be graduating from college. Now picture your life if you had dropped out. Think hard about those two situation. Try to grasp a realistic picture.

Honestly man, drop the band and grow up. No offense, but there are about 18million kids that are in a 'band' when in reality they are a buncha friends hoping to get rich with little work. You guys may even be good, but you'll have to be lucky as well. Nothing wrong with chasing your dream, but if you're going to do that be prepared to go all out, or don't go at all. And I'd suggest not going at all cause if you go all out you're going to have no where back to go to.... er or something like that.

i never said "where" i graduation hs... i said "how" i did, to establish that i wasnt some stoner who blew off hs as if it were nothing.. and going into college, thus a different attitude going in... if you had a druggie going into college, his urge to cut off college would be much greater than say the valid victorian of a high-school... see my point? anyways... next time instead of me asking people what not to say.. KNOWING that they will say it.. i'll just edit that out

I'll have to concur after seeing "valid victorian" . I thought that was funny. OP is english your second language? Not that there's anything wrong with that. Just curious.

Bill Gates dropped out. And he owns. Are you trying to say dropping out of college precludes one from being successful? Then again Bill Gates didn't drop out to be in a band, *snickersnort*. Plus he probably knows what precludes means without looking it up on dictionary.com...umm not that I'm saying someone else on here might not....ok I am but by now have confused him to the point of not following along anymore so I'm safe.

This got me thinkin...I wonder if Bill Gates uses Google..... snicker.
