Chocolate Milk ?

The poor old Imac got its keyboard flooded with chocolate milk. 2 questions, can it be taken apart and cleaned, or more importantly will a pc usb keyboard work in place of the mac keyboard.

You can try taking it apart key by key but it is easier to simply purchase a new keyboard since they are relatively inexpensive. And yes PC keyboards should work with MACs.

With water you could just let it dry, but choclate milk will make things nasty down there. I agree it's much easier to replace it then spend the time cleaning it. And yes, keyboards are interchangeable between pc and mac.

If your gonna think of replacing it anyway. Fill a bucket full of water, and just soak the keyboard in there for a while, use distilled water if you can. Then take it out shake it really really well to get all the water out, and let it dry for a day. Should work fine afterwards, if not you were gonna replace it anyway.

I've washed dozens of keyboards by just sticking them in the dishwasher(without dishsoap) or soaking them in the tub... as long as you let it dry completely, you won't have any problems.

^^^ Washing them is no prob, the important thing is ensuring them dry. Never tried the washing machine though...

rinse with water then get a cheap bottle of acohol and rinse with that it will dry much faster and have less chance for corrosion pc keybords have different command and control keys, but will work just be reversed IIRC.

ahh.. if only i'd known that water is not thine keyboard's enemy when i didst spilleth tomato ketchup on mine a few months ago!! Oh well, was a good excuse to splash out on this amazing £2 IBM refurb... Actually it is a very nice kb!

Yeah - just remove the electronics boards, and then wash the rest of it like you would a dish. And heck, the electronics can probably be washed with rubbing alcohol too; just make sure they have lots of time to dry. And after you've given them awhile to dry, let them dry another day or two.🙂
