Chkdsk-scan for and attempt to recover bad sectors VS. Seatools?

I ran Seatools on one of my drives, it found 1 error and repaired it. I noticed that when you go into the properties dialog box for the drives and choose tools, it has the option to search for and attempt to recover bad sectors. What is the difference between using the manufacturer's utility and running Chkdks with the find and recover bad sectors option?

Thanks,

While im not sure of details, I know for a fact that its a good idea to run both. not to mention seatools tests the drive physically as well.

I've always had good luck with seatools, if you're having any hdd issues, go for it.

Seatools doesn't understand the filesystem so all it'll be able to do is cause the firmware on the drive to remap bad sectors. Once you're out of spares it won't be able to do anything because it doesn't understand NTFS and so it won't be able to mark them unusable for the filesystem.

Running both shouldn't hurt anything, but Seatools should be considered redundant if you've already used chkdsk.
