CHKDSK running at every boot

Hi all,

In recent weeks my computer has started freezing, seemingly randomly, about once every couple of days or so. After a reboot CHKDSK would run, and sometimes clear up a few files.

However, now everytime I restart normally (no system crash or freeze) CHKDSK always checks one partition on my second hard disk. It doesn't seem to find anything wrong with it.

Why would it always do this? Not really sure where to go from here.

Many thanks.

Three possibilities I can think of.
  • failing power supply unit,
  • memory errors, or
  • failing hard drive.

My recommendations:
  • Test each of your hard drive's with the manufacturer's diagnostic utility.
  • Test your memory with memtest.
  • Consider purchasing a UPS battery backup with undervoltage (brownout) protection.
  • consider replacing your PSU.
