Chivalry: Medieval Warfare

I played the beta, its alot of fun. Watch out for friendly fire, alot of people jump and it dont realize you can hack off your teammates limbs.

Hey what's this guy doing?

Oh (dead) not much!

Looks like a pretty cool game, don't think I ever played melee online.

fun game

reminds me of old school FPS except melee-based

aiming does matter although many players just try to make do with doing LMB slash combos which doesn't require much aim

some weapons seem hilariously more powerful than they should be like the Knight's 1H hammer. it is magnetized towards heads.

combat system has some depth, but you have to play on a duel (FFA) server to start to get a feel for it

I was waiting for a thread to appear here about the game. I purchased it after seeing dev trailers a while ago. I will say that if I had a chance to purchase this game again right now, I'd wait on it. They really need to fix some balance issues that are so blatant it's hard to not notice them. Archer class feels like it was thrown in at the last ten seconds, along with certain weapons being clearly better than others.

tldr; I'd wait for this game to hit a sale, or wait at least for the first 2-3 patches before picking it up. If you haven't picked up Mount & Blade, I'd try that before this game.

seen some video for chivalry and it looks cool but looks like it could be annoying too though as melee fps usually sucks.

Best FPS melee combat game next to Dark Messiah.

Its polished and tight, and I have played a lot worse when it comes to indie FPS games. Its well worth £19.

So I played until 1am last night (not even sure how that happened). But what I do know is that this hasn't happened in a LONG time.

This game is a LOT of fun. I had a blast. If you have a thing for medieval times (like I do) and want to swing some melle weapons this one should do the trick.

I mostly played Team Objective (which I thought was very cool).

Getting the hang of a bow now too.

PS. This is Unreal Engine, so nothing ground breaking in terms of graphics.

Anyways, haven't enjoyed a new game like this in a long time.

So far I have played 6 hours and I can't say there are any huge game breaking balance issues. Room for improvement sure.

Mount & Blade is a completely different thing all togeather from Chivalry. I own Warband and its not even on the same scale as this. The only similarities are its setting. Its funny as my mate is a huge Warband fan and didn't think much to Chivlary either, although he did not give it enough time for it to all sink in.

Archer class takes persistance. Its not my cup of tea but I have played games where there has been some very effective archers.

£19 is a good price for what is on offer.

Can friendly fire be turned off? If not, I can easily see a lot of griefing happening.

Nope, it can't be.

You just have to be careful, not get too close. Lot of people are complaining about it BUT it's something you just get over (unless you are playing for stats or something).

This game is fun as hell.

then I imagine the battles quickly turn into 1 vs everyone skirmishes.

I guess our opinions/tastes differ, because at 25$ I really wish I had not of purchased this at release. I've seen multiple people not be able to even connect to multiplayer servers, including friends and me. The server browser is incredibly wonky at times. Vanguards being 90% of the pick on servers due to obvious class benefits, certain objectives being slightly imbalanced/no autobalance (being fixed apparently today), objectives on maps being very hit or miss at times, etc. I understand that warband and Chivalry are SLIGHTLY different in that warband is more methodical and has a higher skillcap, but I'd say if you want to learn/play a new game for this price, get warband over this. Warband also has a single player, and much larger community/servers. I haven't tried WOTR but I've heard good things about that game, too. As for warband not being similar to this game.......I'm really not sure if you've played MP warband. It's pretty identical to this, and has horses too. I think deathmatch, tdm, and KOTH are the only new styles of gameplay that are exclusive to Chivalry, where warband has castle sieges with larger amounts of players on servers (up to 200).

Overall, I just really can't recommend this game to anyone (right now). I have a huge feeling that you will see this much cheaper in the following months, and by then it will be polished.

My co-workers were talking about this game this morning so I checked out the trailer, wow it looks sweet! Different than your normal military FPS shooter for sure which is refreshing. Might pick this up cause a co-worker has two copies left.

Yep, I just need something different. Getting really tired of FPS and the entire "suck people dry with map packs and weapons" approach COD/BF series is taking.

This game is simply a breath of fresh air.

I haven't experienced these issues. Have you tried reinstalling?

This game is based on Unreal 3 engine, and has similar bugs that Unreal 3 has. But nothing major or anything that would discourage me from recommending this game.

I don't experience that problem either but some people do. They have just released a 500MB patch tonight to address the server browser and connectivity problems.

Next patch should include some new tools to rearrange skeletons with.

Cool, can't wait to play it tonight.

Usually when it comes to anything Unreal 3 engine, any sort of major issues = reinstall (it has solved most of my problems) but I haven't had any issues with this game.
