Hey all, What is the leading chipsets for AMD Athlons and XP's? What out performs the amd761 and is worth upgrading to. Thanks in advance all

Other than AMD761 and dual setups, there's three viable, fast chipsets. SiS735, KT266A, and the new ALi Magik Revision C. All are about the same speed in the real world, and it's just a matter of personal preference. The most popular is KT266A, and there are a ton of boards out for it. SiS has a few boards, the most popular being the ECS K7S5A, but it seems nobody can really determine whether it's good or not...there are a lot of mixed feelings on it. If you can get it all working, it's supposed to be a sweet budget board. As for ALi, there's the IWill XP333-R, which has proven to be a very fast, stable board.

I'm using an Epox 8KHA+ right now, which is KT266A based, and I'm very happy with it. I used to have an XP333-R until it died on me, but I still think they're good mobos.. I was most definately in the minority on that one. If you can wait, you might wanna hold on and check out the SiS745 mobos coming out soon, as well as the KT333A in the distance.

IMHO, I think your best choices are gonna be the 8KHA+, XP333-R, or the K7S5A.

If anything, just stay away from the original KT266 (no A) mobos like wildfire and you'll be fine.

Just my $.02 🙂
