Chipset temperature too high?

I have got MSI K7N2-L which is renowned for it's strange temp readings but I have checked the temp with thermocouple of my multimeter attached to the heatsink it only reads about 2°C lower than MBM5.
I lowered the voltage of my 3 case fans to 5V in order to silence my system and now my chipset is getting about 5°C hotter when idle. Does anyone know what the upper temp limit for chipsets is?
My case temp seems allright though, the air being blown out of the case by my case fans is only 33°C hot.

Thanks

What type of climate are you in? Mild, temprete, cool?

Your case temp is a little above normal I would day. Mine gets around 26-28c.

Even so there is a good deal difference between your case temp and mobo temp. What's your case set up like? How many fans? How much heat is your PSU giving off? Etc etc

I believe he is talking about his motherboard and not the CPU.

You can install a hardware monitor (downloadable software) from your motherboard manufacturers site to view your system specs while in Windows.

You failed to mention what CPU you are talking about!

I am actually talking about my Northbridge. I know that my CPU is alright at around 60°C reading of the internal diode (it's still stable at 70).
My room temperature is between 23-24°C.
As for my setup I have got 3 2000 rpm (at 12V) case fans, one blowing in and two out at the back, all at 4,5V. My CPU is a Barton 2800 at stock speed cooled by a Thermalright SLK 900A with a 2000 rpm Papst N2/GML running at 9V; the Northbridge, which is what I am worried about, is passively cooled.

if it aint crashing or being unstable in any way then nothing to worry about TBH.

If you want you could consider taking off that NB heatsink, wipe off the goop and replace with something better like arctic silver. Might drop it a few C, especially if they dumped loads on at the factory.

Otherwise try putting one or two of your fans at 7v instead of 5v, if thats too noisy swap em for low rpm NMB/papst/panaflo ones.

Bartons run high Idel temps. I think your north bridge is fine. I had a kT400 with a north bridge chip that could burn my hand if I touched it after long use. I had the motherboard for a good 8 months at least until I upgraded again. Solid as a rock.
