Chipset Specialized Ram Sticks?

Hey Guys;

You can find ram sticks in Amazon or Newegg that have been specified for a specific chip-set. For example I bought GSKill F4-3200C14Q-64GBGVK which as per Newegg is for Z170 when I used it on my X99 motrherboard it messed it up. Now I found ram stick of same speed and CL
F4-3200C14Q-64GTZSW for X99 but GSkill site doesnt state that they are for X99.

What are your thoughts?

Additional question, can I get the GSKill F4-3200C14Q-64GBGVK ram stick to work by using the timing of the ram stick made for X99 (F4-3200C14Q-64GTZSW)?

Thanks

I was (until I "borrowed" the G4400 CPU for use in my STX rig) using a pair of "X99" GSkill DDR4-2800 sticks (2x4GB) in my Asus H110M-A board, just fine. Then again, I was only running them at 2133.

I fail to see how a Z170 or X99 kit of DDR4 could "mess up" your board.

When I had the (lets call them) z170 in my pc it the motherboard time to switch them from 3200 to 2133mhz. My pc ran fine but switched off from time to time with out a reason and starting problem and one day it stopped restarting due to lost system files, but once i changed my ram sticks to a spare 8gb 2133 and reinstalled OS it has operated okay (still a slow starter even with a m.2)
