Chipset showdown...266A, 735, AMD...

I'm about to RMA a Shuttle AK31 rev3.1 board that I bought for myself yesterday, and I've been looking around, doing some research. I'm hearing of Epox 266A boards coming with bad bioses and boot probs, Shuttle's having voltage probs (which I have experienced - PM me for examples of these probs if you like), and I'm kinda thinking away from Via solutions for now, since not only do I want speed, but some reliability and lack of headaches setting everything up would be great...

I'm just wondering, is there a site with comparisons of the three chipsets head to head? And is the AMD761 solution obsolete, or can it at least keep close to staying in the pack stability, reliability, and speed wise? I remember they used to be the king of the hill not too long ago...

I'm interested in the SiS chipset too, but after my Shuttle experience, I'm kinda nervous about going for real low priced mobos. But, who knows, a lot of people swear by em. Anyways.. what's your chipset of choice, what board, and why? Need input!

Hmm, Via's winning.. remember to include what board if ya can. Prfessional reviews are nice and all, but the general user seems to be a lil more reliable when it comes to glaring probs, bugs, etc..

Oh and btw merry X-mas 🙂

Sorry - Epox 8KHA+

There are zero problems with this board at stock speeds. It's when you OC that you get reboot issues, etc.

well i still voted for the KT266a...for the moment🙂

BTW from what i gather there isnt that mucha difference on them, real time....but of course i could be wrong. Try looking on AMDMB...im too lazy to get a link for you😀

I have an elcheapo K7S5A has been the most stable board I've ever built on, going all the way back to my K62 days. Sure, it lacks OCability, but considering how much I game online and don't get the first error, lock-up, or glitch even after days without a reboot under XP, this board is a good find in my book.

I saw on a few threads that the KT266a has problems utilizing the PCI bandwidths, more specifically, they limited the transfer bandwidth to like 72 mb/s, where as other chipsets and get well over 100 mb/s. You would probably notice the performance hit most on a RAID set up. So I'm having a bit of a problem considering a KT266a chip because of this since I am planning to make a Raid0 setup on my next rig. Should I really be concerned about this?
