I have a p4 computer here with an abit bd7 motherboard
http://www.motherboards.org/ar...rd-reviews/1120_2.html
you can see there how the heatsink is connected

The holder for the pin on the right side just seems to have popped out and cant be found, so I was thinking to fix this I just need some good cooling epoxy that is able to hold the heatsink in place without needing the pin.

Any other possible sollutions maybe?

gues not, requires places to put the screws in which this motherboard doesnt have

but I found this stuff

"ARTIC SILVER thermal ADHESIVE"
is this the stuff I need?

yeah, found it

they recomend it not being used on cpu's, since the chipset is in a sense a cpu would it work?

you can also use thermal tape but it won't be as effective at transferring heat as the epoxy.

thats true, do you know if the epoxy is safe to use on this chipset, the chip reminds me alot of the athlons before the heatspreader so the surface area is very small

The main reason that they recommend against using it on a CPU is because of how permanent the stuff is. Once you epoxy something, it's pretty much gonna be in that state until long after the hardware is extremely outdated. In your case, it should be fine to use it on the chipset (and in most cases for that matter) so long as you don't botch it up. Just be careful since this stuff isn't like thermal paste where if you apply it wrong you can just clean it off and reapply.

I read though in one review of the epoxy that if you submerge it in water it becomes soft

but I'm going to try another methood since its alot cheaper and actually after having the computer running all day the chipset doesnt get hot at all, very strange. But I'm going to try to cover the chipset with normal artic silver and then put 4 drops of superglue on the corners to hold the heatsink on, people have been recomending that methood since its soooo much cheaper.

If you can fashion yourself the missing clip somehow, just use Krazy Glue, very sparingly and carefully to not get any near the traces of the motherboard.

Did that to my old IC7 when the NB clips popped off the motherboard solder points. :)

I knew it was gonna be an Abit when I read the title. Anyhoo, yeah, superglue will do. I did that to attach a large HS on a viddy chip.
