Chipset heatsink fans

i have a p5b deluxe, and jut took the foil cover off the nb and put a 40mm fan on the stock heatsink, pretty sure it dropped temps about 20 degrees

The P5W DH Deluxe doesn't need any fans; the whole point of a large heatpipe based chipset heatsinks is that they can run passively.

If you want you can remove the copper tops that have "digital home" and "Asus" printed on them to expose the fins underneath to more airflow.

Ive just done that last night and changed out the thermal paste for AS5. I havent had time to run it yet and see how it works, but I was considering putting some fans on too as before I did all this I was running very hot (up to 58c on one overclock under load).

but you are probably right, with this mod the fans on the heatsink maybe a little needless unless going for a seriously monster overclock.
