chipset fan

You might be able to revive it by putting a few drops of oil into the fan, but you'll probably be okay just leaving it as-is. To be safe though, might as well pick up a nice passive NB cooler like a Zalman (SVC has a pretty good selection). That won't ever fail, and might even work better if you have decent airflow in your case.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I purposefully unplug my NB fan to lower noise. No significant change in temps. A NB fan is overkill since the NB doesn't generate much of its own heat. Alot of its heat comes from the CPU. Look into getting a Zalman (and some good thermal paste), but do not worry about your system.

It's nothing to worry about. However for safety's sake I would replace the fan with a passive cooling solution from Zalman. I have one in my system with no problems on hot days.

It looks it might be a standard 40mm fan screwed down onto the HS. If so, that should be easy enough to replace. If there are pushpins holding the whole shebang down, a passive solution could work.

Yeah, you don't need a fan. And those fans are usually the loudest component in a system.

does asus or anyone sell this part seperately? i emailed asus a while ago about it and they told me to send them my board. But sending them my board seems quiet irrational just to replace a fan. Do I even need a chipset fan? My computer seems pretty stable without it.

thanks in advance!!!

btw, i had 2 of the same damn boards chipsets <fans> die. POS!
oh, and I never replaced it..

Take the fan off completely, and just leave the heatsink, this will allow for better cooling than if the non-working fan is sitting there.

my fan died on me on my kt3-ultra aru; i ran fine without the fan before putting on a zalman northbridge passive hs; you can find it on svc.com
