Hi,

(Not sure if this is the right forum to post to), but : I have a DFI LanParty nForce4 (no SLI) mainboard, ATI X800 PCI-E and Athlon 64 cpu. My mainboard chipset fan is recently making very loud noises, and cleaning it doesn't help.

Which fan on the market can I use in order to replace it (Exact vendor & model) ? I also see that there is some issue with this mainboard - the PCI-e video card is slightly touching the fan's "heatsink"... which can also be a problem.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Angel

Download Speedfan and slow the fan down to 3500rpm. There is no temp difference bewteen running 7000 rpm and 3500rpm for me, not even 1C, however, your ears will love the new speed....... the chipset is fine up to 60C.....

Hi ,

Thanks for the replies. Actually, i disconnected the fan , and now even when it's not turned on and the system load is high, the temperature of the chipset doesn't go above 51 degrees ( that's what i noticed using nVidia's monitor ) . Do you think there would be a problem (i.e in the summer ) if i just keep the fan disconnected ?

I replaced the fan on my NF4 Ultra-D with the evercool vc-re cooler. It has noticeably better cooling capacity, and is overall quieter. But at full speed it still makes a whiny sound, just not as bad as the stock cooler.

Not if the chipset temp stays below 60C. A little air movement is good though. You could also put the fan on a controller and adjust it down until it is audibly comfortable, I did that with my Epox 9NPA+ SLI since the onboard fan header was dead....works great... I have heard the chipset is rated for 70C.....
