If the fan is connected correctly, try unplugging and re-seating the RAM and vid card.

If you ran the machine for any appreciable time with the fan stalled, the chip it was cooling may be fried.

Before you spend money trying to replace anything, check the power capacitors -- the tall, cylindrical components on the motherboard. If any of the aluminum tops are bulged or domed, or if there is any evidence of leakage around the bottom of any of them, your board is gone.

A skilled technician MAY be able to replace them, but only with luck because unsoldering and removing them can damage the contacts in the inner layers of the multi-layer circuit board and only with capacitors of an appropriate grade. Cheap replacements from Radio Shack won't work, and good ones are not cheap in small quantities. NOT to be attempted if you don't know what you're doing.

Good luck. 🙂

this is the little fan on the mobo not the cpu fan.. also it was working fine when i shut it down, I had to remove the vid card and wireless router card to remove the mobo to get to the back of the push pins that held the fan on the board i used a small amt of artic silver that came w.new fan.. new fan has 2 wires old fan had 3. Used adapter that came with new fan to plug into psu plug for fans.. theyall work just no post.. should i try the fan plugged into mobo 3 wire connector?

I edited my post when I re-read yours and noticed that it wasn't the CPU fan. If the fan is turning, that isn't the problem.

Try unplugging and re-seating your RAM, your vid card and any other plug in card. While you're in there, check the capacitors to make sure they're not bulging or domed.

it's the northbrigge fan that died

The fact that they cool it tells you it needs to be cooled and that overheating could damage it.

I think that arctic silver might be conductive. You may, by accident, have shorted something out with it.

Good thought, but no, it's not. From Arctic Silver's product page:

Not Electrically Conductive:

Arctic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity.

(While much safer than electrically conductive silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver 5 should be kept away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. While it is not electrically conductive, the compound is very slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridges two close-proximity electrical paths.)

I'm leaning toward the northbr being cooked cause I;ve done everything I can think of to everything else as far as re seating resetting etc and no luck bummer for me wonder if I can find another board like this one

The board is Socket 939 with DDR RAM. It may be more to your advantage to consider buying a new setup and selling your good components to help with the cost.

but if i could find a replacerment board i could keep on truckin with my venice core for my business etc.. I have fallen back on my ecs k7s5a with a amd1400 in the meantime
