Chipset drivers

I have a Gigabyte Nvidia Nforce 3 motherboard, AGP 8x, socket 939.
Right now I have the original chipset drivers installed, but they're getting old, so I downloaded the most recent drivers. My question is, should I try and remove the old driver before installing the new driver, or is it okay to just install the new driver on top of the old one?

I have Problems with:
some games. Halo has problems running (and I'm pretty sure it's not the video card since I have tried many different video drivers, all with the same result, and I have the latest Halo patch). Also, I think it runs better when I force my computer to run in single channel memory mode.

I tried the Counterstrike: Source Stress Test, got 116.31 FPS (average of 5 trials), and according to article on this site, with my 6600 GT, I should get around 130 FPS.

Also: sometimes, when opening or closing windows, the desktop icons will refresh. first, they'll all go blank, then be redrawn slowly.

this is how I do it:
- uninstall display driver
- uninstall sound driver (not really necessary...)
- uninstall chipset drivers
- install new chipset drivers
- install display driver
- install sound driver

i actually never instal the drivers on the disk,...i put the latest on a cd and instal those initially,...nvidia says you can just uninstal the video driver and instal the new chipset drivers overtop as long as theres no vid driver for the gart to be installed, and then instal the latest video driver

nForce3 chipset v5.11

To build on what weewegs2543 asked, re uninstalling the nVidia chipset drivers in anticipation of installing newer ones, how does one uninstall the chipset drivers if they don't show up in the Add/Remove Programs section of Control Panel?

FWIW I have the nForce4 Ultra drivers installed from the EPoX CD for a 9NPA+ Ultra board. Nowhere in the Add/Remove Progams section is there a listing for the the chipset driver. The video drivers are listed under the vid card maker - Winfast (Leadtek).

I'd like to update the chipset drivers as the network function is a bit flakey, IMO. But I'm hesitant to do this on top of the current drivers. Any suggestions?

TIA,

Jeff
