Chipset cooling

So, I have a idea on making me comp just a little but quieter. I want to take my stock A64 heatsink, and put it on my chipset. Hopefully this will sufice . Has any tried this or somthing thing simlar?

Sounds like alot of work

You would have to drill the holes for the correct position and i would say use some spring loaded nuts and bolts (like the nvidia coolers use)...

But you would also have to move your video card into the second slot and sacrafice 1-5% performance drop (so i am told).

nah im not gonna move the card down im just going to go to town with the dremel i need that 2nd pci slot. Ill get pics up when its done.

yeah, I cut up my stock xfx 7800gt cooler to fit my nf4 chipset. It was a little difficut to drill the holes, but if you have a drill press, it won't be too difficult.

It was a little shallower than the stock cooler, so i ended up with more room. Without any airflow, it is cooler than the stock, and with a 80mm fan in the drive cage, it is over 20 degrees cooler than stock.

However, i just bougt the new jing ting chipset cooler and I'm going to try that out.

Ask Zebo for pics of his son's system. He did some great work on an Arctic Cooling heatpipe cooler, basically splitting it and creating a mounting so it fits on the Ultra-D chipset and the video card goes through what was the middle of the heatsink, between the heatpipes.

Anyone have ideas on using a stock 7900GT copper cooler on this nf4? I would only run it if it could be done fanless, but I don't think the cooler is big enough for that.

ive seen zebos work...sorta got the idea from there but im cheap so im just gonna make it myself.

my stock 7800gt cooler when it was fanless was still cooler than with the stock by about 5 degrees.

ok, I want to do this but I'm too lazy and don't know how to use a drill anyway. The 7900GT cooler is very light. Maybe I could take out the fan and the section that hold it (leaving the copper "lanes") and use the thermal gease and zipties to keep it in place over the chipset. My fan is pretty loud (Epox 9NPA Ultra) and I don't think my parents will let me buy another cooler (I know it's $5 for the Zalman passive but I just bought a VF700 and Alpine 64) so I really want to try this out.

well i make my cooler. Temps are down about 5C running passively. Ill have pics up tom night hopfully.

How much time did you have total doing that? I thought about doing something like that for a few different things.................but, being a business owner I feel my time is better spent at my business so I bought the Jing Ting..........

well i started about 3:30pm in the after noon, and after lapping finished about 8:00pm that night.

Pretty good results though.......that's about the same difference I saw with the Jing Ting............what about load temps.?

havnt had time to mess around with load yet. BTW wat is the best way to load a north bridge?

I've always just done the same things I do to load the CPU...........someone smarter than me may know how to do something more specific..........
