Chipset 970 HyperTransport bottleneck?

Hi guys, I have a 970A-D3P motherboard with a FX-6300. I read that the HT of Vishera is 2600Mhz, but my motherboard specs says 2400Mhz (4800MT/s).

At the AMD forum someone said that the motherboard maker should provide a BIOS upgrade for 5800MT/s. Is that correct?

What are the consequences of running a 2600Mhz CPU in a 2400Mhz motherboard? Would be an undervoltage?

I appreciate any help.

If you go to the Gigabyte website here:

http://www.gigabyte.us/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=4642

If this is indeed your board, you will see that this board does, in fact, support the chip you are look at upgrading to with fill HT capability, so log as BIOS F3 or better is running on it now (they have up to F5 available). The site also says that F3 was the first release, but I would double-check you have that just to be on the safe side.

I know that the motherboard "supports" it. The question is that the board has the hyper transport bus running in 2400Mhz when the FX-6300 is natively 2600Mhz.

I know most people don't look into those things, but it is kind of strange to run a CPU in a board that is not "fully" compatible with its architecture. The motherboards with 990 chipset run at 2600Mhz, the native frequency of FX.

Why they did that is the question. Does it affect overclock? Does it bottleneck the CPU in stock?

Look at the System Bus line on the page I linked. I am not sure what the question is. The CPU sets the bus speed, not the board.

You might be wrong, perhaps, because this is new to me, but the motherboard specs say "Hyper Transport Bus 4800 MT/s" [2400Mhz]. Someone at the AMD forum said that this is a BIOS setup (some boards have the option to overclock it -- I am no overclocker) and that Gigabyte was supposed to release a BIOS upgrade.

I'll check if I have the F5 BIOS, but they were supposed to correct the specs if the board was set for 2600Mhz.

The other thing is that this board is the replacement of the somewhat old 970A-D3 (which had three revisions). Which means... If it is new, why the heck they didn't already release the board with the native frequency of the FX series?
